{January 29, 2008}   Class Task #3: Selection Tool

fruit_lasso-copy.jpg  fruit_wand.jpg fruit_combo.jpg fruit_feather.jpg

1)What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?

The combination of tools i used in the combo fruit bowl was the lasso tool and marquee tool. I used the lasso tool to trace around the fruit bowl and th fruit and then i used the marquee tool for more perfection.

2) Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?

The method i found most effective was the magnetic lasso tool, i found it easier to work with that tool.

3) Experiment with the following:
After you make a selection in the menu and go to
     a) Select > Modify > Expand
     b) Select > Modify > Contract
     c) Select > Feather
What do these do? Post a fourth image indicating that you know what feathering does.

a) When Modify is used the selection marquee increases by the given number of pixels.
b) When Contract is used the selection marquee decreases by the given number of pixels.
c) Feathering is used to give the marquee selection a soft edge, so that there won’t be
    any rigged lines.

4) For the [magic wand] Did you figure out what “contiguous” does?

yes i did figure out what “contiguous” does, it connects any edges that are close by without a break.

1) Will a 300 dpi image or a 72 dpi image be clearer when printed out at the same size? How come?

When a 300 dpi image and a 72 dpi image are printed out at the same size the image with 300 dpi will be clearer because the more pixels there are the more detailed the picture would be as appose to the 72 dpi image.

2) What would a picture created at 1 dpi look like?

A picture created at 1 dpi would look like one big Dot. The picture would  have no details, and it wouldn’t look like anything at all. It would also be very small.

{January 29, 2008}   Magazine Cover

1)  magazine-cover-copy-copy.jpg

2)aishwarya_rai.jpg This is the original piture I used to make my magazine cover.

3) a. What qualities of your magazine cover make it effective? (eg. What makes it eye catching?, What about it promotes curiosity?, How is it visually pleasing?, What makes it easy to understand?)

I think what makes my magazine cover effective is the bold and bright colours i used against the white background and this to me seems very eye catching which i also believe makes it visually pleasing. The picture of Aishwaryia Rai really sticks out and it promotes curiosity because it makes you wonder why she’s on the cover?..who is she?..which leads you to also read the headlines. The text on the cover is pretty straight forward and very easy to understand and also easy to see…because it’s all written on a white background which makes the text pop out and to make the text easier to see, i also put a drop shadow around it.

b)What was the order of hierarchy you were trying to achieve for the elements on your  magazine cover?

My order of hierarchy:

1) Aishwaryia Rai

2)URBAN GIRL

3)101 HOT SUMMER LOOKS (Secondary story)

4)Summer Shopping (Third story)

5)HOROSCOPES (additional )

6)Aishwariya Rai – Bringin bollywood to hollywood (main story)

The reason why i want the viewers attention to go through all the other stories before the main one is because while the viewer is looking for the reason why Aishwariya’s on the cover, he or she will see all the other stories that are in the magazine which will allow them to read through other things besides Aishwaryia’s story. =]!!
