1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?
I enjoyed the film alot because it made me feel that I am so lucky for what I have and the many oppurtunities I have cause there are people out there who can only dream of having such oppurtunities. It made me realise that i should never complain about life because there are many out there who can hardly earn enough to put food on the table and they continue to live life seeking hope for a better future. To me what stood out the most in the film was the fact that all those children had such a creative mind and were all bright children who had never had the chance to express themselves. It was nice to see all those children gradually have gateways open for them to a better and prosperous future. I also liked the fact that “kids with Cameras” was a non- profit organization, that symbolizes sympathy and it shows that Zana really did want to help the children more than herself…because orginally she had only visited the red light district to take pictures and return back home.
2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?
Like the saying goes…”Actions speak louder than words”…in this case I believe “pictures speak louder than words”. If you take the time to study a picture it really can lead to mystery and make you wonder what the photographer is trying to portray. Thats something i’ve learned about photography from this film. When it comes to life and people, all I can say is that who ever in this world gets enough food to survive every day and has shelter and a good enough job to make a living should thank god for what they have and not complain because there are many people out there in the world in almost every country where people struggle through life and hope for a miracle to come there way and open doors for a better future.
3) How do you think the world needs to change? How important is this?
I believe the world needs to change in an endless amount of ways but to me the most important thing that should be changed is the lack of respect and dignity people have for themselves and others. I believe if everyone treated each other with equal respect than there would be less problems on earth. Men should learn to respect women by not using them , and women should respect themselves by not becoming prostitues cause there are more efficient ways to earn money by getting a good education.
4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part of that change?
I am willing to raise money and help non-profit organizations that are against prostitution and women abuse.
5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with good lyrics about change in the world? Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.
ONE
One song can spark a moment
One flower can wake the dream
One tree can start a forest
One bird can herald spring
One smile begins a friendship
One handclasp lifts a soul
One star can guide a ship at sea
One word can frame the goal
One vote can change a nation
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom
One step must start each journey
One word must start each prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care
One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what’s true
One life can make the difference
You see, it’s up to you!!
6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you? Do they have a website?
Well… the only non-profit organiztion I know of is Free the Children. Free the children have many programs you can get involved in to help out children. One of there programs is called The Brick By Brick Campagne in which our school WEst humber C.I. is also involved. All the money collected on dress down days is sent to Sierra Leon to help build a school for the children there. There website is www.freethechildren.com .
7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?
umm…we could make advertisements using photoshop and publicize all the different types of programs you can get involved in with organizations such as Free the Children and Kids with Cameras.
