PAtty Ho: Copied her right side of the face and pasted it and flip it horizontally and put in place..i used the dodge tool to make the skin tone even out.and for the ripped part on the side i took pieces of the full paper from the top left corner and copy pasted and put in a proper alignment.

Popeye: i copied the right eye and pasted it and used the free tranform tool to rotate it in to the right position.

{June 10, 2008}   Class Task #7 : Layer Mask

What happens when you paint part of the layer mask…black?…white?…grey?

Black: Fully Transparent

Grey: Half Transparent

White: opaque

this is what i had observed.

{June 10, 2008}   Peace Poster : “They call him useless”

What really inspired me was the picture itself…i hadn’t really decided what my story was going to be but when i took a moment to just stare at the picture of the lonely and upset boy..i thought and questioned myself…”why would i be upset ..what can someone say to me that would really hurt?”…and then shazam! loll ..i came up with a brilliant story that had everyone feel sad when they read it.

{June 10, 2008}   Self Portrait : Passion for…. Life

a) What were you trying to express and how did you achieve this?

What i was trying to express was my passion for life…i showed this by taking a picture of my eye because that is what makes you visualize..and in my self portrait i am visualizeing a colorful and positive future..to make it look dreamy and looking in to the future sort of thing..i made the focus point on the pupil of my eye and the rest of my eye is sort of getting blurred to the sides.

b) What Filters did you use and where?

I used the vanishing point filter ( the same one you had shown us with the girl playing beah volleyball and the vanishing point in the pic was the ball and the girls face).

c) What layer blending mode did you use and where?

I used the saturation and hue for the whole picture and then i used multipy and clor burn for the color in my eye and to blend the colours together and make them look smoothly blended i used the blur tool to blend them and then i used the luminosity tool to make that flash shine still apear on the top of my pupil and under my lashes. I also used the blur tool too make the sides od my eyes stretch to make the pupil the vanishing point.

{May 14, 2008}   Logo

a) What does your logo represent?

It represents me and my name :)

b) How did you design your logo to represent this?

My logo represents the first letter of my name “B”…and the lines that come out from the bottom and top are to sort of represent a shooting start with the star on top…kind of like to show that “lifes goes on”

{February 12, 2008}   Class task #5 Born Into Brothels

1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?
I enjoyed the film alot because it made me feel that I am so lucky for what I have and the many oppurtunities I have cause there are people out there who can only dream of having such oppurtunities. It made me realise that i should never complain about life because there are many out there who can hardly earn enough to put food on the table and they continue to live life seeking hope for a better future. To me what stood out the most in the film was the fact that all those children had such a creative mind and were all bright children who had never had the chance to express themselves. It was nice to see all those children gradually have gateways open for them to a better and prosperous future. I also liked the fact that “kids with Cameras” was a non- profit organization, that symbolizes sympathy and it shows that Zana really did want to help the children more than herself…because orginally she had only visited the red light district to take pictures and return back home.

2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?

Like the saying goes…”Actions speak louder than words”…in this case I believe “pictures speak louder than words”. If you take the time to study a picture it really can lead to mystery and make you wonder what the photographer is trying to portray. Thats something i’ve learned about photography from this film. When it comes to life and people, all I can say is that who ever in this world gets enough food to survive every day and has shelter and a good enough job to make a living should thank god for what they have and not complain because there are many people out there in the world in almost every country where people struggle through life and hope for a miracle to come there way and open doors for a better future.

3) How do you think the world needs to change? How important is this?

I believe the world needs to change in an endless amount of ways but to me the most important thing that should be changed is the lack of respect and dignity people have for themselves and others. I believe if everyone treated each other with equal respect than there would be less problems on earth. Men should learn to respect women by not using them , and women should respect themselves by not becoming prostitues cause there are more efficient ways to earn money by getting a good education.

4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part of that change?

I am willing to raise money and help non-profit organizations that are against prostitution and women abuse.

5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with good lyrics about change in the world? Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.

 ONE

One song can spark a moment
One flower can wake the dream
One tree can start a forest
One bird can herald spring

One smile begins a friendship
One handclasp lifts a soul
One star can guide a ship at sea
One word can frame the goal

One vote can change a nation
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom

One step must start each journey
One word must start each prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care

One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what’s true
One life can make the difference
You see, it’s up to you!!

6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you? Do they have a website?

Well… the only non-profit organiztion I know of is Free the Children. Free the children have many programs you can get involved in to help out children. One of there programs is called The Brick By Brick Campagne in which our school WEst humber C.I. is also involved. All the money collected on dress down days is sent to Sierra Leon to help build a school for the children there. There website is www.freethechildren.com .

7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?

umm…we could make advertisements using photoshop and publicize all the different types of programs you can get involved in with organizations such as Free the Children and Kids with Cameras.

{January 29, 2008}   Class Task #3: Selection Tool

fruit_lasso-copy.jpg  fruit_wand.jpg fruit_combo.jpg fruit_feather.jpg

1)What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?

The combination of tools i used in the combo fruit bowl was the lasso tool and marquee tool. I used the lasso tool to trace around the fruit bowl and th fruit and then i used the marquee tool for more perfection.

2) Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?

The method i found most effective was the magnetic lasso tool, i found it easier to work with that tool.

3) Experiment with the following:
After you make a selection in the menu and go to
     a) Select > Modify > Expand
     b) Select > Modify > Contract
     c) Select > Feather
What do these do? Post a fourth image indicating that you know what feathering does.

a) When Modify is used the selection marquee increases by the given number of pixels.
b) When Contract is used the selection marquee decreases by the given number of pixels.
c) Feathering is used to give the marquee selection a soft edge, so that there won’t be
    any rigged lines.

4) For the [magic wand] Did you figure out what “contiguous” does?

yes i did figure out what “contiguous” does, it connects any edges that are close by without a break.

{January 29, 2008}   Class Task #4: Understanding Resolution

1) Will a 300 dpi image or a 72 dpi image be clearer when printed out at the same size? How come?

When a 300 dpi image and a 72 dpi image are printed out at the same size the image with 300 dpi will be clearer because the more pixels there are the more detailed the picture would be as appose to the 72 dpi image.

2) What would a picture created at 1 dpi look like?

A picture created at 1 dpi would look like one big Dot. The picture would  have no details, and it wouldn’t look like anything at all. It would also be very small.

{January 29, 2008}   Magazine Cover

1)  magazine-cover-copy-copy.jpg

2)aishwarya_rai.jpg This is the original piture I used to make my magazine cover.

3) a. What qualities of your magazine cover make it effective? (eg. What makes it eye catching?, What about it promotes curiosity?, How is it visually pleasing?, What makes it easy to understand?)

I think what makes my magazine cover effective is the bold and bright colours i used against the white background and this to me seems very eye catching which i also believe makes it visually pleasing. The picture of Aishwaryia Rai really sticks out and it promotes curiosity because it makes you wonder why she’s on the cover?..who is she?..which leads you to also read the headlines. The text on the cover is pretty straight forward and very easy to understand and also easy to see…because it’s all written on a white background which makes the text pop out and to make the text easier to see, i also put a drop shadow around it.

b)What was the order of hierarchy you were trying to achieve for the elements on your  magazine cover?

My order of hierarchy:

1) Aishwaryia Rai

2)URBAN GIRL

3)101 HOT SUMMER LOOKS (Secondary story)

4)Summer Shopping (Third story)

5)HOROSCOPES (additional )

6)Aishwariya Rai - Bringin bollywood to hollywood (main story)

The reason why i want the viewers attention to go through all the other stories before the main one is because while the viewer is looking for the reason why Aishwariya’s on the cover, he or she will see all the other stories that are in the magazine which will allow them to read through other things besides Aishwaryia’s story. =]!!
